For teachers

Set up a student group

A student group is your class: the students you teach together. You can share a project with the whole group at once, and add the whole group to an assessment in one step.

Groups are built from the people on your account, so add them first if you have not done that yet.

Make a group

  1. Go to Manage teams → Student groups.
  2. Choose New group and give it the name you use for the class. You will pick it from a list later, so a clear name helps.
  3. Add the students.
  4. Add any teachers who look after the class. A colleague can then set and mark work for the same students.

The list shows what each group holds, such as "24 students · 2 teachers", so you can see whether a class is complete.

What a group saves you

  • Sharing. Invite a group to a project instead of typing twenty email addresses.
  • Assessments. Add a whole group to an assessment in one step, instead of adding students one at a time.
  • A new term. Change who is in the group, and your sharing follows the change.

Only people on your account

A student must be on your account to be in a group. You can still invite someone on their own account to a project directly. They just cannot be part of a class.

Build groups while you import

If you are adding a class from a file, the import can do both jobs at once. Each row names a student group, and students are placed in that group as they are added.

For a new term, that is usually one step instead of two.

What next

With a group ready, share a project with it, or set an assessment.
