Share a project

Write a project in the editor and share it with people on your account, or with a whole student group. One checkbox decides what your students get.

• Everyone in one project

  Leave Give each person their own copy turned off. Everyone works in the same project and you can all see each other's cursors.

  Good for live demonstrations, pair work, and a group building one thing together.

• A copy each

  Turn it on. Every person gets their own separate project, copied from yours. Your original does not change.

  Good for giving an exercise to a class.

How to share it

1. Open the project and choose Share project.
2. Under Invite people, search by name or email address. You can add up to five people at a time. To invite a whole student group, switch to Groups.
3. Set They can to view, or to view and edit.
4. Decide whether to turn on Give each person their own copy.
5. Choose Send invitation.

Your students get an email with a link. Once they accept, they appear in your list of people.

The search only shows people on your account.

Working in the same project

If you leave the copy option off, everyone works in one file and you can see each other's cursors. This makes three things easy:

• Demonstrating to a class. Students follow inside the file instead of watching your screen, and can try the next line themselves.
• Helping one student. Open their project, put your cursor next to theirs, and fix the problem together.
• Group work. Everyone adds to the same project at the same time.

Working with each copy

If you turn the copy option on, each student gets their own project. You can open any copy, run it, and edit it with that student. No other copy changes.

So one exercise reaches the whole class, and you can still help one student when they are stuck.

Sharing with someone who is not on your account

You cannot invite them, because the search only shows people on your account. There are two other ways, and they are not the same.

• Add them to your account first. Then you can invite them like anyone else, put them in a group, and give them their own copy.
• Open the project to anyone with the link. Change who can open the project and send the link. This works for anybody, but anyone who has the link can open it. There is also no copy for each person, because nobody is named.
