Grade and release results
After the automatic marking has run, what is left is the marking only you can do: reading the written answers, and deciding what a program that almost worked is worth.
Nothing reaches your students until you release it.
Finish one student
Work through a student's answers, setting marks and writing comments. When you have finished with that student, mark them as done. Every question is then treated as marked, even if you did not set a mark on it.
This records your progress. The student still sees nothing until you release the results.
Release the results
Releasing shows marks and comments to students, based on what you chose for What students get back.
If you set results to appear as each student submits, this has already happened for them.
Release when everyone is finished
Hold the results until the whole class has finished, then release them together.
Good for a class sitting the assessment at different times.
Release as you go
Release each student as you finish marking them, so feedback arrives while the work is fresh.
Good for practice, and a class you will see again soon.
Changing a mark
Reopen for re-marking makes the marks editable again. The student stops seeing their result until you release it again. Use this when you want to change a mark.
Reopen for another attempt is different. The student can change their answers and submit again, and the marking starts over. This gives them a second try, not a second opinion.
When a student asks you to look again
A student who thinks a mark is wrong can ask you to check their answers again. You are told they have asked, and their marks do not change until you decide.
Asking does not change anything on its own. You can reopen the assessment for re-marking and adjust the mark, or leave it as it is.
