The AI assistant and your students

Every JDoodle account includes an AI assistant in the editor. Students can ask it to explain an error, suggest an approach, or say why their program is not doing what they expected.

Sometimes this helps. Sometimes you want students to work it out themselves. You decide, for everyone on your account at once.

• Leave it on

  Students can use the assistant next to the editor. They get 15 AI credits a day, the same as anyone on the free plan.

  Good for practice and project work, where a student stuck for an hour learns very little.

• Turn it off

  Students can no longer use the assistant. The tab stays where it is and tells them it is switched off. They write and run code as before.

  Good for an assessment, or a course where working it out is the point.

How to turn it off

This setting is part of the Teacher plan. On other plans you see a message instead of the switch, and your students keep the assistant and their daily credits.

1. Go to Manage teams and open AI for students.
2. Switch off Let students use JDoodle AI.

The change applies to every student on your account straight away. There is no setting for one student, and no timer. Turn it off when you need it off, and back on afterwards.

Who this affects

• Students on your account. All of them, as soon as you change it.
• Teachers and admins on your account. Not affected. You keep the assistant when you turn it off for students.
• Students on their own account. Not affected. The setting only reaches people on your account.

That last point matters before an assessment. A student who joined your account has the assistant switched off. A student sitting the same work from their own account still has it.
