Evaluation methods
Two settings decide how much marking happens without you. They work together: the first checks the answers, and the second turns that into marks. You cannot use the second until the first is on.
Marked as students submit
Check the answers automatically runs each program against its test cases. Give them the marks too turns the passes and failures into marks. Work arrives already marked.
Good for a large class, or practice you want to return quickly.
Marked by you
Leave both off and every answer waits for you. The test cases still show what passed, and you decide what it is worth.
Good for work where how a student got there matters as much as the answer.
What can be marked automatically
Programs, both kinds of choice question, and true or false have a right answer, so JDoodle can mark them. Open ended questions cannot be marked automatically, because someone has to read them.
An assessment with both kinds comes back as Partially Evaluated. The automatic questions are done and the written ones are waiting for you. This is normal.
Marking again
You can run the automatic marking again at any time, for one student or for the whole assessment. Every question that can be marked automatically is marked again from the current answers.
This also replaces any mark you set by hand on those questions. So do your own marking after the automatic pass, not before.
What students get back
Two more settings decide what students see. Neither has any effect until you release the results.
- What students get back. Choose Mark & Comment, Mark Only or Comment Only. The last one gives feedback without a number.
- Show results. Choose As soon as each student submits, or When I release them.
Releasing on submission suits practice, where students should find out straight away. Holding results back suits work you want to check first, or a class sitting the same assessment at different times.
What next
After the automatic marking, the rest is yours, along with any student who asks you to look again. See grade and release results, and marking and results for the full flow including re-evaluation requests.
