Assessments
Assessment settings
These are set when you create an assessment, and can be changed while it is a draft.
Basics
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Title | What you and your students see in the list |
| Description | What the assessment covers |
| Default language | The language new program questions start in |
| Version | The version of that language |
Marking
Three options, each needing the one above it.
| Setting | Needs | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Check the answers automatically | Nothing | Questions with one right answer are checked on submission |
| Give them the marks too | Checking to be automatic | Correct answers score their marks without you |
| Take marks off for wrong answers | Marks to be automatic | Each question can carry its own penalty |
Leaving all three off means every answer waits for you. The test cases still run, so you can see what passed and decide what it is worth.
What students see
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Show results | When I release them, or As soon as each student submits |
| What students get back | Mark & Comment, Mark Only, or Comment Only |
Comment Only is the one people overlook. It returns your feedback with no number, which changes how a student reads it.
Neither setting has any effect until results are released, unless you chose to show them on submission.
The window
Opens and Closes are set when you publish. Between those times the assessment is live for the students on its roster.
Who is on it
An assessment keeps its own two lists, on its Students and Teachers tabs.
Adding a student group copies those students onto the roster. It does not attach the group, so changing the group later does not change assessments you have already created.
Everyone on either list must be on your account.
Cloning
An assessment can be cloned rather than rebuilt. Useful for running the same work with a new group next term.
